North Carolina heads into the 2009-2010 Season as the defending National Champions. It was the fifth championship for the storied program and Coach Roy Williams second in his sixth season since returning to lead the Tar Heels. Repeating as champions in 2010 will be too much for this young club who lost 5 of their top 7 player (4 of the 5 went on to be drafted in the NBA). The Tarheels will be led by senior, Deon Thompson. The 6' 10” forward will finally be out of Tyler Hansbrough's shadow and will be looked to as the number one scoring option. Sophomore Larry Drew will replace Ty Lawson as starting point guard. And, Ed Davis will move in to the starting lineup at forward. Key games for North Carolina this year include at Ohio State, a rematch of the championship game aganst Michigan State, at Kentucky, and the annual showdowns with the Duke Blue Devils.
